I have a lot of buyers calling me from out of town, just like you, saying the same thing: Dallas is so huge, where do I start to find an area that works for me?

That’s a great question and I get it. There’s so much to consider when trying to help answer this question. So I thought I’d start by giving you a rundown of the top ranked suburbs in the area.

Now, this is not my own opinion. This is based on data collected and published by the website, niche.com.

I have all of these suburbs on a map so you can see where they’re located in the metroplex. If you want to be close to the airport and in a highly ranked suburb, you can easily find that using the map. Also on the map I have links that are updated live, in real time, with our MLS so you can see what homes are available to purchase in each of these suburbs.

Now to the list!

The number one suburb is Coppell. Located north of the Dallas Fort Worth airport, this suburb is ranked as the best suburb to live in Texas, not just DFW. It’s ranked #1 as the best suburb to raise a family, #2 for the best public school, and #8 for the best suburb for young professionals. Coppell has a population of 41,645. It has a B- rating for crime and safety based on violent and property crime rates. The median household income is $122,340.

The number two suburb is University Park. This suburb is located smack in the middle of the City of Dallas. It’s ranked #1 by Niche.com as the place with the best public schools, #3 for young professionals, #3 best suburb to raise a family. It has a population of 25,036. It has a B rating for crime and safety. The median household income is $224,485.

The number three suburb is Southlake. Just a little northwest of the Dallas Fort Worth airport is the suburb of Southlake. It’s ranked the #2 best suburb to buy a house, #2 to raise a family, #4 suburb with the best public schools, and the #24 best suburb for young professionals. It has a population of 31,292 and a B rating for crime and safety. The median household income is $240,248.

The number four suburb is Plano. This suburb is located north of Dallas along Interstate 75 and is sought after because it’s location allows you to be relatively close to Dallas but also close to other major business areas. It’s ranked #2 for the best suburb for young professionals, the 9th best suburb to raise a family, and number 10 for the best public schools. It has a population of 287,064 and has a C+ crime and safety rating. The median household income in Plano is $95,602.

The number five suburb is Frisco. Just like Plano is located along the major road, Interstate 75, Frisco is located north of Dallas along another major road, the Dallas North Tollroad. So, again, you’re not too far from Dallas but you’re close to a lot of other major business areas. It’s ranked the 5th best suburb to raise a family, 5th best for its public schools, and 15th best suburb for young professionals. Frisco has a population of 177,020 people and has a B- crime and safety rating. The median household income in Frisco is $127,055.

Okay, so that’s the top five with some details about each. Finishing the list to give you the top ten I’ll go a little faster and forgo the stats but just tell you the suburbs and a little something about each.

The 6th best suburb for Dallas Fort Worth is Flower Mound. Flower Mound has a lot of outdoor recreational options with more than 30 miles of multi-purpose trails, 680 acres of park land, 11 miles of equestrian trails, and 26 miles of unpaved hike and bike trails.

The 7th best suburb is Richardson. Many people move here because of its close proximity to the city of Dallas but it is a little more relaxed.

The 8th best suburb is Colleyville. This city gives you upscale rural living.

The 9th best suburb is Highland Park. Located just south of the number two rated University Park, Highland Park is known for being one of the most expensive areas for real estate in the metroplex. The average sales price in November 2021 was $2,918,750.

And finally, the 10th best suburb in Dallas-Fort Worth is Murphy. This is a small town located north and a little east of Dallas.

So that list makes the top ten suburbs in Dallas-Fort Worth.

And remember, these are not my own opinions but you can see all of this online, along with the data used to make these ratings at niche.com.
